Match Report:

Merstham 2nd X1 cruised to their second league win of the season against Old Tensionians this weekend to maintain their 100% record this season.

With the wicket promising little assistance and pace for the bowlers and Old Tenisonians grinding out a draw the previous week, Merstham skipper Rob Young had no hesitation in putting the visitors into bat at Quality Street.

The visitors got off to a steady start with openers Barry Mercer (43) and John Munden (25) frustrating the Merstham opening attack.

David Loader (3-21) eventually removed both openers, and with more tight bowling from the other Merstham bowlers the visitors were restricted to 186-7 from the full 52 overs.

Chasing 191 to win from 43 overs, Merstham quickly found themselves one wicket down with the loss of opener Jeff Spencer for 6.

Jason Drewett then came in to join Richard Maysey at the crease. This pair batted very aggressively and shared a magnificent unbeaten stand of 182 runs for the second wicket with Maysey (66 no) and Drewett (97 no) guiding Merstham to an emphatic victory in just 29.3 overs.

This was another assured performance from the home side and they look to continue the good form against Whiteley Village at Quality Street this saturday.
