Noman Javed, pictured right, was named first team player of the year at Merstham Cricket Club's awards night on Saturday.

Captain Nav Saeed praised the all-rounder for being the player he could most rely on to win a match, with bat or ball, during a phenomenal season in which the club won the Fuller's League Division Two title in its 150th year. Noman also was top run scorer with 562.

After running through the whole side and saying how they contributed, Saeed added: "I think we can go on to play championships cricket in the next couple of seasons."

Jason Drewett was awarded second team player of the year with his skipper Richard Feist - also the club captain - saying there was no doubt he could play first team cricket if he wished. Drewett also collected the prize for best batting average.

Sunday first team player of the year was Bobby Sharp - who has recently joined the executive committee as fixtures secretary - while the Sunday second team player of the year was the everygreen Terry Garrett, who also cooked the evening's chilly.

Clubman of the year - awarded the John Perium Cup for services to the club during the last 12 months - was Ian Lamont, for his work promoting the club during its anniversary year.
