Details of trip to Lords
For those going to Merstham Cricket Club's 150th anniversary match at Lord's Nursery Ground to face Cross Arrows on Tuesday September 30, details are as follows:
The team is posted here. Sorry if you didn't make the team, but the combination of players old(er) and young would welcome your support nonetheless for the 50 overs a side match.
A coach will leave at 8.15am but please be at Station Road/near the Feathers Pub in good time, ie from 8am. It is likely you might have the chance to park at the club but of course the meeting place is right next to the rail and bus stops.
There are still places on the coach, please contact Chris Clayson if interested in booking a place.
There is no charge for the coach, but we must pay a match fee to play the match so there will be a charge of £10 per player. The game is scheduled to start at 10.45am.
Lunch is provided for players, umpires and scorers but unfortunately not spectators - who could either bring a picnic or visit the Tavern Pub nearby.
It is customary to enjoy a drink with the home team afterwards. A tour of Lord's (£6 per entry), which has the world's oldest sporting museum, has been arranged to start at 6pm, so it is anticipated that the coach might not start its journey back until about 8pm, which of course has the advantage of missing rush hour but being back well before closing time!
If you have friends, relatives or work mates, for example already in London, who intend coming to watch, we have been directed to the North Gate for entrance, so point them that way (nearest Tube is St John's Wood, fairly close are Baker Street and Edgware Road, overground London Marylebone).
Random fact is that the current Lord's ground is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, therefore the host team have equal incentive to enjoy the occasion and even to win, so we look forward to a rousing speech by our league title winning captain Naveed Saeed before the game.
A history of the Cross Arrows can be found here.
Come on the Magics!
