The Division Two winners’ trophy was presented at the Fuller’s League annual dinner to first team captain Naveed Saeed.

He received it from Paul Nixon, the former Kent and Leicestershire wicketkeeper, who was guest speaker at the evening.

And there is still the chance to vote for Merstham as team of the year in the Surrey Mirror’s sports awards.

Nav also picked up another trophy, on behalf of Jason Drewett, who was the top scorer in the second XI Premier Division with 492 runs, averaging 44.73 and scoring five half centuries in his 12 innings.

The first team won the title – and promotion – in the club’s 150th year, with 15 wins from 18 matches.

Nav is already working towards another title assault.

He said: “It was a great evening picking up the trophy, especially from a fellow wicketkeeper.

“I’ve spoken to most of the guys and it looks like most of them will be playing for Merstham again next season, so we hope to continue the winning habit and make an attempt to get another promotion.

“Our aim has to be playing in the Surrey Championship in a few years’ time and it seems a great time to build on the standards we have set ourselves and the momentum of our 150th year.”
