Matthew Lewis Memorial match against Mogador this Sunday
Merstham Cricket Club will host the sixth annual Matthew Lewis Memorial Shield match on Sunday, when Mogador Wanderers are the visitors.
Matthew played for both clubs and died of a heart attack aged 41 in December 2009.
Matthew will be well known to many past and present members, having played at junior and senior levels at Merstham, along with his brother Joseph and their father Allan, who is a vice president, life member and former chairman who bowled the first ball in the club’s centenary match in 1964.
A large number of people attend the annual fixture, many who would have known Matthew through his cricketing days at both teams.
They would appreciate your support again this year.
The sides have played five times for the shield, Mogador winning three times and Merstham twice, including last year. This year’s match begins at Quality Street at 2pm.
