The U9 Hawks won two recent matches in a row, both through fantastic team performances in the field.

Against South Nutfield the Hawks restricted the opposition to 263-6 with Matthew Gray and Jacob Law both taking two wickets.

However, the undoubted highlight was Jamie Cattermole's stunning catch above his head on the boundary, which drew gasps of admiration from players and spectators alike. The Hawks never looked in trouble overhauling the target, scoring 281-6.

Against Caterham, the Hawks scored 273-6 and, with seven overs to go, Caterham were ahead of the required run rate. But the Hawks then produced a clinical "lock-down", taking four wickets and conceding no wides and only six runs off the bat. Caterham ended up well short on 236-6, with Fred Cantrel taking three wickets.

Reigate Priory U9s beat the club’s Eagles in their cup game, scoring 323-7 to Merstham’s 264-8.

In a league match, Reigate Priory Llamas also beat the Eagles by 83 runs.
Significantly weakened by half term holiday absences this match gave some of the less experienced players a chance to play larger roles.

The Eagles only managed 225, losing far too many wickets  including via a number of run outs. The coach may have contributed to this by placing an emphasis on quick singles and looking for the second!

Connor Morris displayed some characteristic big hitting for 13 and had excellent support from Ben Wright. Priory lost only one wicket in making their 308.

However, hugely encouraging was the progression of the bowling by many in the team including Kai Powell, Alexander Bird, Connor, Joshua Kenny, Lewis Davis and Callum Moore. Barney Turner displayed a good grasp of fielding positions and again showed a good feel for leading a team.

Connor was man of match for fine all round performance.
