U10s win tournament
Merstham's successful U10s have won a second competition, adding the Ifield Tournament Cup to their East Surrey Colts League Cup.

All of the boys in the squad contributed in our whitewash path to the final. The competition was far from easy, as they fought and played hard throughout in a tough introduction to the "out and you're out" rule, as opposed to pairs cricket.

Charlie Parkes captained the team in the final and was rewarded with holding the cup high at the presentation. It was Charlie's debut as wicket-keeper and he was very solid throughout the tournament.

Special mention must be made again of Daniel Kite's contribution in the final, scoring 56 not out with batting partner Will Broughton who together put on an undefeated opening partnership of 80 runs.

Our bowling attack was under pressure from the outset, but some sharp and professional fielding swung the game back under our control.

Thanks go to everyone for their support on the day, the siblings, parents, and grand-parents, plus John Norton, our team manager for scoring and pulling this day together with Helen Markham's help.

Coach David Swan was presented with gifts by the squad for his efforts this season. These included t-shirts and a John Lewis voucher, plus a mini bat signed by each of the boys.

He said: "Their contribution over the season, culminating in these Cup wins, makes this Mini Bat one of my proudest possessions."
