Merstham Cricket Club's participation in the national NatWest Cricket Force weekend started today with working parties at Quality Street and The Ring.

One team cleaned the pavilion at The Ring, on Earlswood Common, where Bernard Feist was busy rolling the square (pictured), while at Quality Street new nets were installed, plus the inside of the clubhouse was given a thorough clean.

A skip of rubbish was filled. Tomorrow (Sunday) there are still plenty of tidying and maintenance jobs to do before the season starts. Work will start at Quality Street from 10am.

Today, members were joined by Reigate and Banstead Borough Councillor Mark Brunt, who helped out and retold the story of how he built a fence around the ground with former England Captain Mike Gatting a few years ago, when Merstham was one of three ECB focus clubs in the spotlight nationally, over that year's Cricket Force weekend.
