Action from the Eagles U12s against Nutfield

Merstham's U12 Eagles have played well in all their matches this season, coming close to winning on several occasions, however on Tuesday night, they recorded their first victory by defeating South Nutfield by six wickets at home.

The Eagles won the toss and captain Matthew Greaves opted to put the opposition in to bat. South Nutfield notched up some quick runs during the first half of their innings before losing their first wicket in the 11th over with a catch taken by Ben Clements off the bowling of 11 year old Charlie Rumistrzewicz.

The runs slowed further after the retirement of South Nutfield's star batter on 25 and a run out in the 17th with the visitors on 94, prompted a spell of very tight bowling from Eva McLeod, Theo Rumistrzewicz and U11 player Alvin Sathya, who took a wicket in the final over. South Nutfield reached 100 runs off their 20 overs.

The start of the Eagles innings matched that of South Nutfield with Matthew Greaves and Alvin running well between the wickets until Matthew was caught out on 15. With the score at 62-3 in the 11th, Charlie joined his brother Theo at the crease. Working seamlessly together they piled on a further 40 runs helping Merstham Eagles win the game in the 18th over, by six wickets.

The win was well deserved and will serve them well for their final few games of the season.
