The U9s won their play-off final

Merstham's Under 9 team rounded off a fantastic season with a terrific win over Oxted & Limpsfield to be crowned ESCL U9 League play-off winners.

Batting first, Merstham batted sensibly, gradually accelerating throughout their innings. Good lower order scores from Travis Bateman, Paolo Bertorelli, Oliver White and Charlie Halford-Nichols took the team to 278 with the loss of only two wickets – a real credit to the boys for good batting and sensible running.

The bowlers then set to work, taking wickets at regular intervals. Excellent fielding (including two run outs from direct hits by Paolo), great wicket keeping from Oliver Clements, and everyone supporting each other in the field with good backing up, restricted to Oxted to 251-9. Everyone bowled well, with wickets shared between William Blair, Alec Baker, Ishaan Acharya, James Barkwith, Thomas Pieters, Paolo and Charlie.

The boys were a real credit to themselves and the club, and fully deserved the celebrations they enjoyed at the end. It was not only a great team effort, but a fantastic effort from the whole squad - every boy who played in any of the games this year, whether they be league, cup or friendlies has played an important part in this success.

Andy Baker and Jon White would like to thank all of the boys for their hard work throughout the year, and to also thank all the parents who have helped out. We all look forward to next season!
