Under 13s make Surrey Cup progress
The under 13s started the season with a win in the Surrey Cup and a first win against local rivals Horley for this age group.
The batting started well with an opening stand of 41, Adam Swan out for 27, (three short of the retirement mark of 30) partnered by Alvin Sathay.
After that, Horley applied the pressure with some tight bowling and the pace of the run scoring slowed. The lower order added vital runs, Zohaib Faisal (14) Ben Jones (11 not out) and Daniel Botma (10) ensured the final total was competitive at 111-9.
The bowlers contained Horley and the fielding was to its usual high standard. Adam Swan and Jasper Parsons each took a wicket and special mention should go to Ollie Barkwith for a great stop on the boundary as well as to Ben Jones for taking a safe catch at deep point.
In the end Horley got to 101-3 from their 20 overs, giving Merstham the victory and an away tie with Oxted to look forward to. Full scorecard available via PlayCricket.
