U14 Falcons have wings clipped by Limpsfield
Merstham’s U14 Falcons' first game of the season took place on Thursday 10th May at Quality Street against Limpsfield Chart.
Captained by Noah Young, Merstham lost the toss and were put in to bat. Openers Matthew Greaves and Young both fell early to the bowling of Harry Puck and Merstham were 5-2 by the end of the second over.
New batsmen Matthew Retter and Harry Younan partnered well and put on 32 runs before the third wicket fell and Jude McRobbie joined Younan at the crease.
Merstham continued to score steadily, losing only a further two wickets before reaching a total of 123-5 from their allotted 20 overs.
After a very short tea break, Merstham faced some aggressive batting from Limpsfield, who, despite losing their first wicket - caught and bowled by Retter - were 40-1 after three overs. Limpsfield’s number three made a quick-fire 19 before being caught off Noah’s bowling.
As Limpsfield continued to score at a steady rate, Merstham exerted the pressure. In the space of four overs and 18 runs, Merstham took four wickets.
With the score at 118-7 from 18 overs, the battle was on to bowl Limpsfield Chart out before they to reached the target of 124. Unfortunately, seven runs off the second to last over saw Limpsfield Chart win a tightly fought match.
