Enquiries about junior cricket welcome at MCC

We welcome enquiries about joining Merstham Cricket Club at all age groups and have many teams and training for youngsters aged five upwards. We have opportunities for boys and girls.

Our outdoor season for all age groups started on Friday 22nd April at Quality Street Merstham RH1 3BB.

Coaching is on Friday evenings between 5pm and 6pm for Years 1-6, between 6pm and 7pm for Years 7-8 (and the girls' squad), and between 7pm and 8pm for Years 9-12.

For Years 1&2 the coaching sessions concentrate on having fun and gradually introducing the children to cricket and to the skills required to be a competent cricketer.

From Year 3 the children also play in organised leagues. Matches for Years 3&4 are normally on a Saturday morning and for Year 5 on a Sunday morning. Matches normally last around two hours.

Year 5 upwards play with a hard cricket ball and the appropriate safety gear.

Your child would be able to play in matches once the age group manager feels that they are ready and able. This particularly applies to hard ball games where health and safety is more of an issue.

All newcomers to the club are offered a single free 'taster' session to make sure that the child enjoys the coaching. After that, we ask for the child to be registered (via this web page link) and for subs to be paid as per the club's listings which for juniors are as follows:

Juniors Years 4-6 £90

Additional siblings £80

Juniors Years 1-3 £65

After a 'taster' session, children who are not registered and for whom subs are not being paid will not be able to take part in coaching sessions or matches.

If your child is new to Merstham CC you can bring them along on a Friday evening at the appropriate time without registering first on the web site. They should be signed in before joining a coaching session. For non-registered children who are having a 'taster' session we ask that the parents leave a mobile number when signing the child in and stay at the club for the session.

To register your child and to pay the relevant subs please visit the Club web site www.mersthamcc.co.uk and use the code "cricket2022" when requested.

Below Year 5 the children don't need any special clothing or safety gear. We encourage 'whites' to be worn in matches, but otherwise trainers and jogging bottoms/shorts are fine for the coaching.

Year 5 and above need to have a 'box' protector if they are to participate in any hard ball sessions or matches.

All children should bring a drink with them. They won't need to bring their own bats.

More information about Merstham Cricket Club is available via the web site at: www.mersthamcc.co.uk.

The web site will also let you know if a coaching session has had to be called off because of the weather. A ground inspection normally takes place around 4pm on a Friday afternoon.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
