Merstham Cricket Club will host the fifth annual Matthew Lewis Memorial Shield match on Sunday (May 25), when Mogador Wanderers are the visitors to Quality Street.

This year, for the first time, money will be raised for charity, Winston’s Wish, in memory of Matthew, who played for both clubs and died of a heart attack aged 41 in December 2009.

We have 16 tickets to the England vs Sri-Lanka Royal London One Day International at the Oval next Thursday 22nd May 2014, available for club members and families (max 4 per member)!

If you are club member (or parent), and have paid your subs (or will pay in the next few days), please contact Carol Pearce if you're interested in ticket(s) and can attend the match on Thursday.

Merstham’s Saturday first XI took a comprehensive victory against Chaldon CMO on a damp wicket at Quality Street on Saturday, earning maximim win points from their opening two games of the Fuller's Surrey League Division Two season.

They won the toss and decided to bowl. Chaldon began well and were 38 for 1 but No 2 Mohsin (11) and No 3 Aqeel Arshad (23) proved to be the visitors’ top scorers as they were all out for 62 in the 20th over.

During the week beginning 19th May, the nets practice facility at Quality Street will be out of action to allow for the installation of new surfaces.

It is hoped that the work will be completed for the Friday evening training, weather permitting.

The club is looking for volunteers to fill some gaps on the tea rota, for adult home games on Saturdays and Sundays.

Over the next few weeks we need someone to provide teas on Saturdays, May 24 and May 31 (when the second XI wil be playing at Quality Street) and on Sunday June 1 when the Sunday first team are at home.

Lithon Tarofder was the key contributor as Merstham won their first Fullers League Division Two match of the season, at Quality Street on Saturday.

He used his seam bowling to good effect, taking three wickets for 15 runs in his nine overs (three maidens) as Wallington were dismissed for 131. Humayoon Nasir, the seventh bowler used, also took 3-32 from six overs.

Merstham Cricket Club's fixtures for the weekend of Saturday May 3 and Sunday May 4 are as follows:

The Saturday first and second teams start their Fuller's County League programmes (good luck guys!) with the firsts hosting Wallington at Quality Street and the seconds travelling to Lingfield. Games start at 1pm.

A match for a combined third and fourth team will take place against Offham at The Ring, Redhill, starting at 2pm.

If you are available and not already listed to take part, please contact Mike_Hanlon93@yahoo.co.uk or 07929 269518 in case he needs extra players.

On Sunday, there is now no game for the Sunday first XI but the second team will host Rottingdean at Quality Street at 2pm.

Both this Saturday's friendlies have been called off, the first team's at Trinity Mid-Whitgiftians and the second team's at home to Reigate Priory. Would all players contact their captains with availability for next weekend please. Contact details are on the 'contacts' section of the website.
