Arsalan Abass starred for the third week running as Merstham clinched a vital victory over leaders Merrow in the Quality Street club’s bid for a third consecutive promotion.

In the last match of the season, Merstham's Under 12 Eagles visited Caterham, a team languishing at the bottom of the East Surrey Colts League table. After recent strong performances, Merstham were keen to end the season on a high. 

Merstham's Under 12 Hawks have won the East Surrey Colts League, winning all the games they played.

Good weather blessed the send off for long-standing drinker and colourful Merstham sportsman Jez Gray, who is off to teach sport in Singapore.   Both Merstham and the 'Reprobates' XI (clad in blue pyjamas!) were well stocked with 13 and 14 a side.     For the sake of consumption of ale, Jez's 'Reprobates' won the toss and elected to field, noisily in the cases of some -mentioning no names, Mr Simon Rivers! The MCC 'Combi' side were fortunate to have Laurie Nicholson on form who hit a sparkling 99.  Laurie was on his way in style to his ton: believing he had cleared long-off the ball was miraculously clutched from the air.     At drinks most of the 'Reprobates' enjoyed a half of Fosters rather than squash.  With all 13 batted and the 40 overs up MCC settled for 242, young Anthony Maplesden adding a valuable 30 at the tail.  All adjourned for the most sumptuous of teas provided by many of the players of both sides.     Requiring sox an over 'Reprobates' were soon on the chase for their target.  Liam Powell top scored with a brisk 63 before falling lbw to MCC skipper Ash.  Merstham might well have had their evening in the field had a number of very difficult catches been held: Thomas Kenny held on to two and made heroic but thwarted efforts to reach another three.     'Reprobates' reached their target with 10 overs to spare; a magnificent run fest of almost 490 in 70 overs.  Along with the flow of runs the beer kept flowing, though we managed to drink the Fosters dry.     The evening's entertainment was enhanced with a live singer whose jolly repertoire spanned from Beatles to Oasis.     Big thanks to Michelle Pitcher who manned the bar for more than eight hours and to Treasurer Chris Clayson who put in a late stint.   Thanks to all who came and supported.  Very best wishes to Jez as he leaves the UK. Merstham’s victory over Frimley was the Arsalan Abass show, as the all-rounder took five wickets and scored 64 to push the Magics closer to leaders Merrow.

Merstham’s first XI maintained their four point cushion over third-place Lingfield in the Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League Premier Division with a 144-run victory over Whiteley Village.

Merstham U12 Eagles played Reigate Priory in a cup game on Thursday last week.  Coming off the back of their first win of the season the team were buoyant and positive.  Merstham won the toss and elected to bat but struggled to get early runs on the board, with opening batsman Matthew Greaves falling in the second over.   

Merstham’s first team suffered a tight defeat to local rivals Lingfield, at Quality Street on Saturday.

Merstham's U12 Eagles have played well in all their matches this season, coming close to winning on several occasions, however on Tuesday night, they recorded their first victory by defeating South Nutfield by six wickets at home.
