Merstham Cricket Club is delighted that two teams have been shortlisted for honours in the Surrey Mirror Sports Awards – and now they need your votes to help them win!
Merstham Cricket Club has applied for permission to install a container behind the existing clubhouse at The Ring.
Friends and family of Terry Garrett gathered to witness his ashes being interred around an oak tree that was planted in his memory at Quality Street on Sunday.
We are looking for some volunteers to fill various positions at the club, as well as to "put the club to bed" for the winter.
The clear away operation will take place on the morning of Sunday October 4 from 10am and there may be a beer or two in it for volunteers.
A new member of the Merstham Cricket Club family has arrived.
Hugo Nicholas Drewett arrived late on Thursday evening, to proud parents Donna and second team vice captain Jason. Congratulations and we wish them all the best.
James Roulston (pictured left) has won the Reigate and Banstead Sports Awards, to add to his Surrey OSCA.
James, 23, plays for Merstham Cricket Club's disability side and was awarded the Disability Sport Award at the ceremony on Tuesday September 15. He had previously won a Surrey County Cricket Club Outstanding Services to Cricket Award. Both awards reflect his work helping our groundsman Bernard Feist prepare the playing surface and the Mencap football team who use the club in winter. Having won a Surrey OSCA, he now goes forward to a national ceremony to be held at Lord's next month, at which he could win a national honour. The club's Under-10s were runners-up in the young team of the year, after a successful season in which David Swan's charges won two trophies - their league cup final and a sixes summer tournament.A tree is to be planted at Quality Street on Sunday September 27 in memory of Terry Garrett, who died in the spring aged 68.
Terry had been treasurer of the club for more than two decades until 2014 and remained an active player right through that year, including playing in our 150th anniversary celebration game at Lord's Nursery Ground last year. After liaising with his family, the tree will be planted at the tea interval during next Sunday's game, which will be the final game of the season. All are welcome. The deadline to book your place at the club's annual dinner and dance evening, which takes place on Friday October 9, is fast approaching.
Tickets, at £35 each, must be booked by September 25. The annual dinner dance takes place at Reigate Hill Golf Club at 7.30pm for 8pm.
