Fuller's Brewery County League Division One
Merstham 230-8
Shepperton 74

Merstham secured their second league title in as many years, with a comprehensive victory at Shepperton, having led the division from start to finish.

Our annual open day will be combined with a chance to honour the memory of Terry Garrett, our treasurer for two decades who died in the spring.

Firstly, we are very grateful to Margaret Garrett who is leading the organisation of refreshments for the players on the open day.

Merstham's successful U10s have won a second competition, adding the Ifield Tournament Cup to their East Surrey Colts League Cup.   All of the boys in the squad contributed in our whitewash path to the final. The competition was far from easy, as they fought and played hard throughout in a tough introduction to the "out and you're out" rule, as opposed to pairs cricket.   Charlie Parkes captained the team in the final and was rewarded with holding the cup high at the presentation. It was Charlie's debut as wicket-keeper and he was very solid throughout the tournament.    Special mention must be made again of Daniel Kite's contribution in the final, scoring 56 not out with batting partner Will Broughton who together put on an undefeated opening partnership of 80 runs.   Our bowling attack was under pressure from the outset, but some sharp and professional fielding swung the game back under our control.   Thanks go to everyone for their support on the day, the siblings, parents, and grand-parents, plus John Norton, our team manager for scoring and pulling this day together with Helen Markham's help.   Coach David Swan was presented with gifts by the squad for his efforts this season. These included t-shirts and a John Lewis voucher, plus a mini bat signed by each of the boys.   He said: "Their contribution over the season, culminating in these Cup wins, makes this Mini Bat one of my proudest possessions."

Merstham 239-5
Deando Ruxley 116
Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League Division One

An unbeaten century by Arsalan Abass helped Merstham put their second successive title bid back on track, as they defeated lowly placed Deando Ruxley by 123 runs.

Merstham were put into bat by Captain Bill Ash and managed to score 205 all out from 42 overs. Chief contributors being Ben Carter (27) , Gus Locke (51), Will Prior’s heavy bat (26) and a 21 ball 40 from the 4th team's favourite "overseas" player, Bharat Sahani.

Surprisingly, the Sunni and Saeed double act (Bowry and first team skipper Nav) only managed 18 runs between them.

Just like England’s Jimmy Anderson, Merstham’s Asim Jafferi suffered a side injury as he tried to bowl on Saturday, when Surrey County Fuller's Brewery League Division One leaders Merstham lost to mid table Mitcham by 93 runs. Mitcham scored 227 while Merstham could only manage 134.

Unfortunately for the hosts, the number four bowler lasted just one ball as Merstham tried to stop the flow of runs for Mitcham’s opening bat Dharam Vyas, who scored 70 of 64 balls (14 fours) and was eventually bowled by Tharusha Tilakarathne leaving the visitors 126-3.

Merstham Magics, the club's disability squad, hosted the East Surrey YMCA Friday night project as part of their community engagement.
The night saw of 20 participants take part in a game of cricket and a BBQ.
Following the success of the event there are now plans for day courses and other social events to take place between the organisations.
