Dozens of former playing colleagues turned out to honour the memory of Terry Garrett on Merstham Cricket Club’s open day, a national initiative promoted by ECB partners Waitrose, who donated £100 to clubs for the occasion.
There has been a slight change of plan for the Waitrose Open Day on Sunday, when we shall honour our former treasurer Terry Garrett by playing in his memory.
The day will now consist of one 40 overs game, spready from 11am to about 6pm, with lunch and tea provided for players.

Merstham secured their second league title in as many years, with a comprehensive victory at Shepperton, having led the division from start to finish.
Our annual open day will be combined with a chance to honour the memory of Terry Garrett, our treasurer for two decades who died in the spring.
Firstly, we are very grateful to Margaret Garrett who is leading the organisation of refreshments for the players on the open day.

James Roulston from Merstham Cricket Club has won young volunteer of the year in the Surrey OSCAs – Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards.
Merstham were put into bat by Captain Bill Ash and managed to score 205 all out from 42 overs. Chief contributors being Ben Carter (27) , Gus Locke (51), Will Prior’s heavy bat (26) and a 21 ball 40 from the 4th team's favourite "overseas" player, Bharat Sahani.
Surprisingly, the Sunni and Saeed double act (Bowry and first team skipper Nav) only managed 18 runs between them.
Just like England’s Jimmy Anderson, Merstham’s Asim Jafferi suffered a side injury as he tried to bowl on Saturday, when Surrey County Fuller's Brewery League Division One leaders Merstham lost to mid table Mitcham by 93 runs. Mitcham scored 227 while Merstham could only manage 134.
Unfortunately for the hosts, the number four bowler lasted just one ball as Merstham tried to stop the flow of runs for Mitcham’s opening bat Dharam Vyas, who scored 70 of 64 balls (14 fours) and was eventually bowled by Tharusha Tilakarathne leaving the visitors 126-3.
